Instruction

The use of technology in training and instruction is becoming pervasive. From face-to-face to virtual online venues new and existing technologies are being utilized in order to create richer learning environments. While I will definitely own up to being fascinated with technology and pretty much a girl geek, I do not however encourage early adoption where education is concerned. The practice of good pedagogy/andragogy necessitates using practical theories of education and integrating applicable technologies when they have been adequately researched for effectiveness. Using new and existing technologies for technology’s sake may increase the “Bling” factor but may do little to enhance the intended educational effect.  Technology used wisely can aid in assimilation and retention of knowledge, meet the needs of students varied learning styles, and make the leaning experience richer and more engaging for all learners.

I believe that good curriculum design must include: An evaluation of the problem or need for instruction (what’s the problem and will instruction solve it?), the discussion of viable solutions that may include appropriate technologies, the use of good pedagogy/andragogy, a good architectural plan, time to adequately develop the content, a continual evaluation loop, and the ability to adequately deploy/disseminate and maintain the curriculum.
